11th Border Regiment (The Lonsdales) 1914 -1918
Due to this year (2014) being the centenary of the beginning of World War One VERA have chosen to honor this historical date by forming a WW1 section within the group. As you can see above, in line with VERA's well established WW2 section (1st Border Regt, Airlanding Brigade) we have chosen to portray another famous Border regiment this time being the 11th Border Regiment, otherwise known as "The Lonsdales".
We are currently a very small section of a couple of members however we already have full kit and access to period canvas and weaponry such as a Lewis Gun. We are also able to a member in full Officers kit should we require. Having said that being a small group as regards numbers offers us the opportunity to concentrate on "quality" rather than "quantity".
We are currently looking for new events for this year and are also looking for new members to help swell our ranks. Please see the "Join Us" page of this website if you are interested in joining VERA and the Lonsdales. Should you wish to book us for an event then please email us by clicking on the email (envelope) option at the top of the screen or by emailing Paul Elliott at paulelliott76@yahoo.co.uk

History of The 11th Borders. Motto of the 11th:- Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense — Evil be to Him who Evil Thinks.
The 11th Border Regiment was a service battalion formed at Penrith (HQ), Carlisle, Kendal and Workington by the 5th Earl of Lonsdale and an Executive Committee using the Earls private funds. In May 1915 the Battalion moved to Prees Health Camp (Shropshire) and was attached to the 97th Brigade in the 32nd Division. In June it moved to Wensleydale (Yorkshire) and later to Fovant in August, being taken over by the War Office on the 27 August 1915.
The battalion landed at Boulogne on 23 November 1915 and spent the next two years and eight months in France and Flanders with the regiment taking part in the ill fated 1st July Assault on the Somme 1916. On 10 May 1918 the Battalion was reduced to cadre strength, with surplus personnel transferred to 1/5th Border Regiment. Three days later it was transferred to the 66th (2nd East Lancashire) Division and on 31 July 1918 the Battalion was eventually disbanded.
